SELF WORTH FROM WITHIN

SELF WORTH FROM WITHINwritten by Sylvia Marina

The more you appreciate the good things you have, the more clearly you will understand what to do with them.

I’m always excited when March comes around – it’ my birthday month and although I like it to slip under the ‘outrageous celebration’ radar I always acknowledge the significance of my birth. Born with an inner-warrior-spirit I struggled to find my place in the huge tapestry of the universe. It seemed every little nook and space was already taken.

I knew from a very young age what my life purpose and reason was, so why does inner wrangling sometimes happen?

Deep inside my warrior spirit was yearning to be free but I was lodged in a situation that dictated my life choices.  It takes great courage to change, much more courage to change than to stay in an energy that suppresses self worth.

I believe that a suppressed sense of self worth is a major problem plaguing most people today.
It often underlies many other problems we face. Without a healthy sense of oneself, we feel unworthy of respect and of the good things in our life.

Too much of society taught us to value others and devalue our self. This does not work for the betterment of humanity. Until we truly value our self we are constantly looking to others for approval. As a result, this usually entails manipulative behaviour, wanting ‘them’ to love us in order for us to gain a sense of self-appreciation.

Manipulation and control are always detrimental to relationships.  And needing the approval of others always leaves our self-worth in someone else's hands.

Like many, I heard the verbal put-downs but inside the greater part of me was standing tall.
I could not embrace that which my heart could not feel or my inner spirit be at peace with.

I
t takes great courage to change. It takes courage to step away from the voice(s) imbedded in your history. Living with a gloomy situation, living with promises, living with little expectation of fulfillment and not pursuing change (employment that crushes your spirit) is devaluing yourself.

Knowing something intellectually and knowing something experientially are not the same.

Here is a little exercise – say this out loud to your-self.

I now feel my worth within, whether or not anyone else on the planet validates my worth by
their appreciation of me.  I appreciate other peoples’ appreciation of me, but I don't
depend on it, for no one else knows me as I know me.

Read it again, slowly.

When we get a sense of worth from within rather than trying to get others to value us, we then experientially feel our own worth and no-body else has to value or validate us.

When we embrace this gem of truth it gives us the freedom to live our reason and purpose without question and without fear of judgement.

Our worth is a given - only our self non-belief hinders us from accepting that truth - once you get over that hurdle you will stop sabotaging and start living from a place of self worth and freedom.
