MANAGING STRESS IN UNCERTAIN TIMES ... with Sylvia Marina

Through times of change everyone handles life differently.

A child rejoices as they count the days till their next birthday whilst a senior wipes away tears as the preparations begin for the celebration of a ‘milestone’ which in a silly way, but real, feels like the last hurrah!

Change that requires us to adapt and alter our regular behaviour, potentially causes stress.

Being in a career transition when the economy is in crisis is an emotionally challenging place to be. Dealing with stress and financial uncertainty is emotionally taxing.

There is a surge of people wishing to know more about their ancestral influences in relation to illness and disease, actions and reactions on managing grief and stress and young parents requiring radiation and chemo therapy asking ‘there must be something more I can do for me’.

Not all stress is genetically linked.
To gain access to your ancestral emotional and spiritual intelligences means you are connecting into your innate knowledge and remembrances of how your ancestors coped through the stresses of time, drought and famine, illness and disease, heartache, anguish, sorrow and grief. Your ancestors were resilient, you need to know how to access their resilience.
You resilience intelligences are stored in your genes. I help people access these intelligences.

Whether changes are perceived as negative or positive, change is stressful.

Anytime there is a change in day to day familiarity, work transition, health challenges, financial change, our dreams may need adjusting. Modifying goals, extending dreams to a future date can bring feelings of failure, shame, regret causing sleepless nights and feelings of disappointment and aloneness.

Grief Support

Mostly in reading advice in managing stress, you will be advised to ‘get plenty of support. In my thirty years of working with cancer patients and people undergoing change in their life, through the anxiety of the stress, asking for help is the last thing most people think to do. Instead they go to a place I call ‘numb’. A place where life is so desperate you feel there is no-one out there to understand.

When you are at a time when you need people in your corner is there anyone you can confidentially blurt out your stresses to. There is me. You need someone who cares without ego, opinion or judgment.

Sometimes our desperate place of desperation seems like a desert with no oasis.
So desolate we don’t hear or see the outstretched caring hand.

ICE - I
n Case of Emergency

In your phone, have ICE – in case of emergency who to call.

Under this make a list of ‘favourites’ those people who at sometime have said ‘if ever you need help’ call me.

For me one of those people was Stan. He would say Sylvia, if ever you or the girls (I was a single Mum at the time) need help, call me. The day came when we desperately needed someone braver that ourselves to deal with a challenge. I called Stan, reminded him of his mantra ‘ if ever you need help’ ... he was true to his word and help us in our time of need.

In recent times I have reviewed my list. People’s circumstances change, they move house etc.
Remember, even when we think we have no-one to turn to, there is always someone. The list does not have to be long. If you are stuck for ideas as to how to start a list – email me.
